ABOUT US
BATO is a female-led organization that works with both the rural and informal settlement populations using a gender mainstreaming approach. This means that while our programs primarily focus on achieving gender equity and equality for the girl child, women and Youth. We take care not to leave behind the boy child (and men) who are part and parcel of the society within which they live.
We cooperate and collaborate with government institutions, strategic partners and relevant stakeholders, to improve the communities’ perception of the value of girl child development, promoting women into leadership and governance positions, gender considerate decision making processes, we promote the invaluable impact of youth involvement in the greater social economic framework of community development and policy making, active and equal decision making at multiple levels, and the strengthening of Youth and women’s capacity to meaningfully engage in social economic development growth and sanity to a struggling gender Equality to attain their full potential.

OUR history fetches back to 2012, when Founders who form currently the Executive Board Members of the Organization formed a campaign outfit against cultural stereo-type practices that inhibited the growth and development of the girl- children, in our Society. Through the partnership with AIESEC- International Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences- BATO linked International Student Volunteers to local partner Organizations to enhance their capacities through an exchange programs building on mentorship programs in Schools- Primary and Secondary and Tertiary Institutions- Universities and Technical Colleges.
The Organization was then operating as a Community Based Organization and later in 2017 registered as a Non- Governmental Organization. Was given a legally certificate of operation as a Non-Governmental Organization in January, 2019 by the NGOs Coordination Board- Kenya.
The Organization is driven with a team of Board members and staff with diverse skills and professional background. We are motivated by the passion, compassion, and love to serve the most vulnerable of the communities’ in Kenya.

Our Objectives
The organization provides assistance to the poor, underserved or marginalized groups in the community by involving them in the assessments and projects implementations through their local leaders in order to identify and prioritize their urgent survival needs.
BATO also ensures the relevant capacity building in order to enhance community ownership, good management and sustainability:
- Capacity building in the community through training of trainers and local community groups supporting business start-ups and income generating projects within the local communities.
- Building capacity and advocating and promotion of the rights of people with disability (PWD)
- To develop and implement formal and non – formal training & educational programs for the youth, Women, people with disability(PWD),to enhance, explore and harness personal, social and skills development.
- To influence and work closely with government bodies, local decision-makers, networks and strategic organizations to be representative, responsive, accountable and ensure that there is a sustainable involvement and participation of vulnerable communities in civic society

WHAT WE DO / OUR SERVICES

Food Security & Agribusiness
Aimed at increasing the communities’ resilience and incomes through food, nutrition and livestock production to rise above the poverty and malnutrition index respectively of the project beneficiaries who are women and Youth.

Education For Transformation
Girl Child Sponsorship Project- Formal education support to needy children to ensure child insertion and retention capacity in Schools is enhanced.
Mentorship and Counselling

Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
Menstrual Health Management – Mentorship and Counselling, Protect and Dignify a Girl- Child by providing sanitary wears to School girls and Community teenage mothers to enhance self-esteem.

5.
Capacity Building and Livelihoods Programme
Courses which vary from 4- 12 Months on Vocational Business and Entrepreneurship incubation are aimed at increasing the household incomes through structured Social Groups. Each compact course is segmented into different Skill areas – Technical, Social and Entrepreneurial.

Teenage pregnanvies & HIV and STIs
There has been an alarming rise in the rate of teenage pregnancy, HIV and SDTs infections among teenage girls in Kenya despite numerous efforts to address the crisis. This poses a great risk to the future of the Kenyan adolescent girl;
