Teenage pregnacies & hiv and stdis

There has been an alarming rise in the rate of teenage pregnancy, HIV and SDTs infections among teenage girls in Kenya despite numerous efforts to address the crisis.

This poses a great risk to the future of the Kenyan adolescent girl; the impact of pregnancy at an early age is devastating with emotional, physical and financial implications for the girl, family, community and even country. These burden of teenage pregnancy is at 18%, in every 5 girls 10-14 years 28,932 cases, 15-19 years 349,456 cases. The implication of this is that it compromises the education of the girl.

  • BATO initiative focus on the most affected counties according to the statistics given by our partner National council for population and development to drastically reduce the teenage pregnancies through campaigns and partnership with various stakeholders including government, Non-governmental Organizations, Private Sector, Community, religious organizations.
  • We do mentorship programs by engaging the teens in both primary and secondary schools by;
  • Sensitization on teen’s pregnancy and HIV infection through peer education.
  • Engagement of Parents and the community by enhancing girl child education.
  • Menstrual and hygiene management on sexual reproductive health education and sanitary pads distribution which enhances girls’ retention in school and social behavior change.
